Fiona Beach has extensive professional experience in the field of Immigration and Asylum Law. She is a member of the Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association, Human Rights Lawyers’ Association, Refugee Legal Group, Mind, and Lawyers for Liberty. Having completed a Sociology degree, Fiona Beach became involved in voluntary work for the National Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders where she was responsible for teaching numeracy and literacy to adults as well as advice work in housing and social security. Fiona was called to the Bar in 2001.
Fiona has had an active involvement in the field of Immigration and Asylum Law since 1994. She was appointed as a part time Immigration Judge in 2007 and regularly sits at Taylor House. She has worked in a Solicitor’s firm advising on Immigration and Asylum, Social Security Law and Housing and, from 1998 until 2000 worked as an Appeals Worker at Asylum Aid, a charity specialising in advice and assistance to asylum seekers. Her work as an Appeals Worker involved representation at both Adjudicator and tribunal levels. Fiona is also a volunteer for the Free Representation Unit, for whom she regularly undertakes work on a pro-bono basis.
Her practice includes representation before Adjudicators and at Tribunals as well as Judicial Review and Statutory Review. Her other areas of practice include Community Care Law, Family Law, Mental Health Law and Public Law. Fiona also lectures regularly on Immigration Law and Human Rights Law at the University of Westminster.
